Overview
Since the very beginning Moretti Srl has decided to focus on quality and specialization, not addressed to mass production but – rather – to small series or prototypes requiring specific care in development and manufacturing. Prior to using Odoo, the company found themselves having to continuously monitor the production progress of each individual piece and ensure traceability for each operation. Working in collaboration with implementation partner STeSI Consulting, Moretti’s Odoo solution was deployed over an 18 month period. Thanks to Odoo, Moretti is able to manage a volume of orders 40% greater than before.

Key challenges and requirements
Specialized for over 60 years in the manufacturing of transmission organs and precision mechanical machining, Moretti supplies from single items up to small and medium series of high technology content mechanical parts. They can be provided as complete supply or single processes for different mechanical sectors such as: Aeronautics, Automotive, Machine Tools, Military Defense, Shipbuilding and Wind Energy.

Prior to implementing Odoo, the company found itself having to manage a large number of parts with production cycles that were always different to each other in very specific ways. As it was quite rare for manufacturing processes to be the same, the company had to continuously monitor the production progress of each individual piece and ensure accurate traceability for each operation. Moretti’s legacy system was a tailor-made software dedicated exclusively to production management and not integrated with all the other company software systems. Over time the company found they needed to be more efficient; they needed a software system that was integrated on one single platform.

When researching for a new software system, a fundamental point for Moretti was the possibility to work with a system that could be modified in order to adapt perfectly to company needs. This was particularly necessary as the production of many of the mechanical parts all differed from one another. With Odoo being a one stop shop for all business applications and its customization capabilities, it became clear to the company what software solution would be best suited to meet their business needs.

Solution and results
Working in collaboration with implementation partner STeSI Consulting, Moretti’s Odoo solution was deployed over a 18 month period. As part of the company’s solution, the following Odoo apps were implemented:
Sales: used for the management of all commercial aspects from the request for an offer to the receipt of the order from the customer
Purchase: used for subcontracting management
Manufacturing: management of production and work cycles (BoM)
Documents: used for the traceability of quality certifications
Accounting: for the financial management of accounting transactions and documents
The implementation began with an assessment of the organization's needs. During this assessment it became clear that the priority was the implementation of the manufacturing and sales modules. This was developed first and the implementation took around one year. After this was complete, Odoo documents were added which took around two months to launch. Odoo Purchasing and Accounting were also added and this also took two months.

Some initial difficulties were encountered at the start of the implementation phase. This occurred because the company needed to become more familiar with Odoo in order to understand how and where to modify and integrate the native Odoo code in order to customize parts of the solution to obtain specific results. With Odoo partner STeSI's support and professionalism combined with rapid response times, even the most critical situations were resolved.

The new software system has brought a new way to handle and negotiate commercial activities and monitor production. It has also enabled Moretti to increase efficiency by around 30% in comparison to the resources previously used. This has allowed the company to reinvest in better management control with a direct impact on customer satisfaction. Today the company has been able to manage a volume of orders about 40% greater than in pre-Odoo periods with the same amount of resources.

Thanks to Odoo, the company no longer has to manually keep watch of production and has a great overview of the products produced and their traceability. For Moretti, Odoo is unlike what can be obtained even from the most qualified competition. What users most value about the platform is that it combines a high level of customization with an intuitive and practical back-end full of features that captures the user's attention and stimulates a great working experience.
